Kacific1 was successfully launched into space aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket at 7:10 PM (EST) on December 16, 2019, from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, United States. The satellite was placed into its geostationary transfer orbit 33 minutes after initial ignition.
Owned by Kacific Broadband Satellites Group (Kacific), this Boeing-built communications satellite will deliver high-speed broadband services across 25 countries in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands through 56 spot beams.
“Kacific1 is a next-generation, advanced-technology satellite serving the Asia-Pacific region, placing Kacific in a very strong position to grow within these markets,” said Christian Patouraux, founder and CEO of Kacific. “Its diverse services—from mobile backhaul to broadband internet via VSAT terminals—will act as a catalyst for positive transformation in the countries it will serve. I’m excited to begin witnessing the social and economic impact of Kacific1.”
Kacific1’s coverage includes Indonesia, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, and South Asia with 28 spot beams, while the Pacific Islands and New Zealand will be served by the remaining 28 beams.
Following a series of orbital maneuvers and in-orbit testing (IOT) expected to take about six weeks, Kacific1 is scheduled to begin commercial services by the end of the first quarter of 2020.
This milestone launch was celebrated in Florida by over 160 guests from across the Asia-Pacific region, representing customers, telecommunications and internet service providers, government agencies and regulators, non-profit organizations, universities, investors, and Kacific’s management and staff.
“Celebrating this launch with Kacific’s international supporters was a remarkable and affirming experience. I am deeply grateful for the incredible energy they brought to this unforgettable moment,” said Patouraux.
