Keynote from BIGNET CEO

Several of overseas and Indonesian satellite operators, have launched satellites with High Throughput Satellite (HTS) Technology. These new generation satellites have the ability to provide a higher throughput compared to the other conventional satellites. Currently, all of the HTS satellites operating in Indonesia are using Ku-Band frequency.

As one of the telecommunication companies that has a vision to contribute to Indonesia’s advancement, therefore since 2015 BIGNET has collaborated and committed with Kacific Broadband Satellite Ltd., to provide the first satellite communication technology Ka-Band HTS services in Indonesia. By now, satellite with the name of Kacific1 has been launched on the 16th December 2019 (EST) at Cape Canaveral, Florida with Falcon9 rocket from SpaceX.

Kacific1 Ka-Band HTS Satellite will become a game changer in Indonesia, because it is very suitable for a broadband application. All of the island and sea in Indonesia can be covered by the 20 out of 56 spot beams from this Kacific1 satellite. With the Ka-Band HTS technology which is using the multi spot beam and its concentrated nature, this will make a significant difference compared to the Ku-Band HTS Satellite which only has 8-12 spot beams, even more compared to the C/Ku-Band Satellite which using the widebeam coverage.

Spot beams are small and powerful, coming from Kacific1 satellite, are able to produce signal quality that are very strong and with massive throughput. This Ka-Band HTS Satellite is able to produce a data connection speed of up to 20 Mbps upload and up to 100 Mbps download just by using a 0.75-1.2 m antenna. With a relatively small antenna, it could make logistic and installation much easier for remote area especially in the eastern Indonesia area. If we use a much bigger antenna, the speed could be increased up to 8 times. Kacific1 network will start operating at the beginning of March 2020 and will be ready to serve Indonesian people from the early April 2020.

Advantages of the Kacific1 Ka-Band HTS satellite are faster data connection, easier to mobilise the equipment, more reliable telecommunication network, affordable price, and having a network coverage throughout the whole Indonesian archipelago. This technology can be used at schools, clinics, village offices, public health center, SME, government institution and military so that they can be connected to a high speed internet and also very suitable for enterprises especially those that have activites in rural area and need to use multimedia application.

To close off, we believe these technology presented by BIGNET could be useful and sync with Bapak Ir. Joko Widodo government programme to achieve equality and strong economy growth based on social justice, educated society and able to increase the people’s life quality through accesible internet service for the whole Indonesian people, especially to those in 3T area. (outermost, remote and disadvantaged area).
